After losing his opening match, Filipino International Master (IM) Enrico Sevillano rebounded with a win over Charles Lawton in the second round of the ongoing 2009 US Chess Championship at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis in Missouri, USA.
According to sports Web site BilliardPhilippines.com, Sevillano won after 88 moves using the white pieces of the Modern Defense.
Sevillano, last year’s US Open champ, is working his way to become a grandmaster.
He earlier bowed to defending champion grandmaster Yury Shulman in the first round.
