Filipino pug seeks revenge for Gorres vs Colombian foe
MANILA, Philippines -- Michael Domingo gets his chance to vindicate fallen boxer Z Gorres when he faces the fearsome Luis Melendez of Colombia late in May in Cebu.
Melendez was Gorres’ foe when he collapsed inside the boxing ring last November.
According to a report by Philboxing.com, the emotional Domingo will keep the phrase “remember Gorres” when he gets inside the ring with the Colombian fighter.
He added that Gorres extended him advice on how to face Melendez.
“Nothing can be more reassuring than having Gorres as my secret weapon. He has been advising me how to elude the potent blows of Melendez and how to knock him out as well,” said Domingo.
Gorres fought Melendez in Las Vegas in November 2009 and won the fight despite getting knocked down by Melendez in the final round. But moments after he was declared the winner of the 10-round bout via unanimous decision, he collapsed and was rushed to a hospital.
Domingo has a record of 39-14-2 with 17 knockouts while Melendez has 26-5-1 with 21 knockouts.
The fight card also includes the bout between come-backing Jimrex Jaca and James Kimori of Kenya, Africa.
The fight will take place on May 23 at the Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino.
