MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao may have won a seat in Congress but Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s performance against Shane Mosley made him lose his pound-for-pound top ranking in Yahoo! Sports.

According to the Yahoo! Sports list issued by its boxing reporter Kevin Iole, Mayweather outpointed Pacquiao by 6 points in voting conducted by an elite panel of boxing writers from around the world.

Mayweather, who is Ring Magazine’s No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter, received 20 off the 33 first place votes for a total of 317 points while Pacquiao received 13 of 33 first places votes for 310.

In his analysis, Iole said Mayweather “showed complete game in [his] convincing win over Mosley.”

Pacquiao, however, still enjoys Ring Magazine’s No. 1 pound-for-pound ranking.

Iole, meanwhile, said in his report that he hopes the camps of Pacquiao and Mayweather will thresh out their differences to finally arrange the biggest fight to date.

“Hopefully, [Top Rank chief Bob] Arum, [Golden Boy chief Richard] Schaefer, Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz, Mayweather advisor Al Haymon and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe can work out a deal to make it happen,” he said.

Rounding off Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound list are:

Paul Williams (No. 3)
Juan Manuel Marquez (No. 4)
Chad Dawson (No. 5)
Sergio Martinez (No. 6)
Wladimir Klitschko (No. 7)
Timothy Bradley (No. 8)
Shane Mosley (No. 9)
Juan Manuel Lopez (No. 10).

Mayweather or Margarito

Arum earlier said he will prioritize arranging the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight because it is the match everybody is waiting for.

“That’s the fight that I’m going to do my darndest to make happen. I don’t want to discuss any of the issues involved in making that fight because we are going to be involved in negotiations and my first goal and Manny’s first goal is to make that fight happen,” said the Top Rank promoter.

Arum said they are eyeing November 6 and 13 as possible dates.

However, if things don’t work out between Pacquiao and Mayweather, Antonio Margarito will step in as the Filipino’s “Plan B”.

Pacquiao vs Margarito | Martinez vs Williams | Haye vs Harrison

@ bernievee and dcart

you two morons need to get a life and quit crying about it. especially you bernie vee - you're pathetic man, you troll all over the internet spreading the pacauiao gospel. move out of your parent's house, get a girlfriend or a boyfriend (whichever you prefer, but i'm guessing its the latter) why are you so jacked up about it? what does it do to your life whether Mayweather or Pacquiao is on the top of the list?... who gives a $hit about P4P whether its the Ring, yahoo, espn, or whatever. it's nothing but a mythical list and based on opinions of those put out the list.

fighters don't get anything out of being on that list. what? respect? fighters get respect by beating the best...

Yahoo P4P ranking shows irrational result

Yahoo recent P4P rankings has some irrational result, maybe tends to be bias. Remember that Flyod Mayweather Jr. has beaten Shane Mosely who was beaten by Miguel Cotto, who then beaten and KO by Manny Pacquiao. The no. 1 P4P ranking could have been shared by these two great fighters instead of one is up than the other.

Not true!

I was expecting something precise from abs-cbn when it comes to reporting. They have miserably failed on this one. Who said that that Yahoo Sport report by Kevin is for the P4P ranking? It's for the Welterweight, dummy!

And, who is Kevin to lay claim on the P4P ranking when it was The Ring magazine who invented it? Hello!

Lastly, who are these so-called 'elite boxing writers from around the world' that this balding writer from yahoo alleges? Is he hallucinating? Or is he living in his own made-up world? Poor Kevin Hole!
