MANILA, Philippines – Brandon Rios' coach Robert Garcia admires Manny Pacquiao for picking a fight against the Mexican brawler in his comeback bout this November.

Garcia said that for a boxer who was knocked out cold in his most recent fight, Pacquiao is taking a huge risk in facing Rios.

"It's a tremendous risk he is taking. I take my hat off to him and his management team for taking this," he told Max Boxing’s Gabriel Montoya.

Pacquiao takes on the Mexican on November 23 in Macau, nearly a year after being knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez.
Garcia said among the biggest questions in Pacquiao-Rios fight is how the knockout affected the Filipino boxer.

“Nobody knows how Pacquiao is coming off that fight. It’s one thing that’s happened to many, many fighters where they get knocked out that cold, they are never the same. So, we got to see what Pacquiao comes out. Is he going to be in the place he was a few years ago? Maybe that helped him. Or maybe he is the fighter that loses everything after that?” said Rios’ coach.

For their part, Garcia said they will have to adjust Rios’ training to negate Pacquiao’s abilities.

He said that against Pacquiao, Rios will have fight smarter.

Garcia said that his ward has youth on his side and is agile enough to box with the fleet-footed Filipino.

“Believe me; when Brandon plays around, moves around in the gym, he’s got reflexes,” he said Garcia.

“He has that [makes angry face] ‘doesn’t care [attitude].’ Especially with the danger of the fight coming up, we’ve got to fight a little bit smarter. And people will see.”
