Portland's Lillard leads All-Rookie squad
NEW YORK CITY - Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, the unanimous selection as NBA Rookie of the Year, was named to the 2012-2013 season NBA All-Rookie Team announced by the league on Tuesday.
Lillard was also the only unanimous selection to the honor squad, which also includes Washington guard Bradley Beal, New Orleans forward Anthony Davis, Cleveland guard Dion Waiters and Golden State forward Harrison Barnes.
Lillard received 58 points in voting from the NBA's 30 coaches, none of whom could vote for a player on their own club. Davis and Beal each had 57 votes while Waiters had 50 and Barnes garnered 47.
Selected sixth overall in last year's NBA Draft, Lillard was the NBA's top rookie scorer with 19 points a game and also led newcomers in assists with 6.5 a game.
Davis, the top pick in last year's draft, averaged 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocked shots and 1.2 steals a game while Beal averaged 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game for the Wizards.
Barnes helped Golden State reach the playoffs by contributing 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists a game while Waiters had 14.7 points, 3.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds a game.
The All-Rookie Second Team included Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas of the Toronto Raptors, Detroit center Andre Drummond, Charlotte forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Detroit guard Kyle Singler and Cleveland center Tyler Zeller.
Falling one point shy of second-team honors was Russian guard Alexey Shved, who helped spark his homeland to a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
