Filipino billiards master Dennis Orcollo dominated the Predator International 10-Ball final on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) with an 8-3 win over German legend Ralf Souquet.

Orcollo said he was not expecting to win the 10-Ball event held at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

“Maraming magagaling. Natalo pa ako sa winners bracket so going down sa losers side. Sabi ko sana makabalik ako, makatira ako nang maganda,” he told ABS-CBN News in a phone interview.

When he entered the round of 32, he said to himself: “Sana suwertehin pa ako ulit.”

He defeated Filipino Rodolfo Luat, 11-6, in the final 32. He beat Charlie Williams of the US, 11-6, in the last 16.  He beat another Filipino, Warren Kiamco, 7-4, in the semifinal.  His final hurdle was Souquet, who he described as “the best in Germany.”

Orcollo noted that he also wanted to avenge the loss of fellow Filipino Alex Pagulayan to Souquet. The German thumped Pagulayan in the semifinal, 7-1.

“Tinambakan niya ‘yong kakabayan nating si Pagulayan. So sabi ko sana mabawian ko siya at makuha natin ang kampeonato,” added Orcollo.

Also called “Robocop,” Orcollo won the first prize worth $20,000.

He said his sources of inspiration are his family, wife, fans and God. “Sa buong bansa na rin and kung saan man nandoon ang mga Filipino.”

Orcollo is set to return to the Philippines on Sunday (Monday in Manila). A report said the Predator 10-Ball champ will see action in an event next week in Lipa, Batangas.— with a report from Bev Llorente, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau
