MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao may have been badly burned by the same-sex marriage controversy, but this isn’t likely to affect him in the boxing ring.

Yahoo! Sports boxing columnist Kevin Iole said controversies are not new to Pacquiao, who has managed to pull off victories in the ring despite distractions.

“The truth is, the [same-sex union] controversy isn't even a blip on Pacquiao's radar. It will have zero impact upon the way he fights,” Ilole said in his blog.

Iole noted that the Filipino superstar has had plenty of distractions in the past, including reports about his gambling and womanizing.

The analyst even mentioned Pacquiao’s alleged affair with actress Krista Ranillo.

But he said the Filipino boxer has managed to surprise fight fans every time he steps in the ring.

“He's not only won, but he's done it most times in spectacular fashion,” said Iole.

Pacquiao was caught at the center of yet another controversy when a faulty online article written by a certain Granville Ampong created confusion about his stand on same-sex marriage.

Pacquiao's opposition to same-sex union became controversial because some readers thought he also invoked a passage in the Bible which insinuated that all gay people should be put to death.

The verse was from Leviticus 20:13, which says, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”
The boxer denied quoting the verse.

Ampong later owned up to the error, but blamed other writers for “twisting his piece.”
