Former British boxing champion Joe Calzaghe had some kind words for his fellow Briton, Ricky Hatton.

“He's one of the best fighters we've seen from Britain,” said Calzaghe in an online report by Gavin Glicksman of British daily “The Sun.”

Calzaghe commented that whatever Ricky’s decision will be on his career, “the Hitman” has already “done very well.”

“He's made an amazing amount of money and become a two-weight world champion,” added the Welshman, who retired undefeated (46-0, 32 KO) in February.

Calzaghe held the WBO super middleweight title for more than ten years. He also won the IBO, WBC and WBA super middleweight title and became the Ring Magazine light heavyweight champion.

The “Pride of Wales” defeated Roy Jones Jr., Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler, and Bernard Hopkins in his remarkable career.

On the outcome of the “Battle of East and West,” Calzaghe said, “OK, he lost against a much better fighter in Pacquiao. But Pacquiao is a great fighter, not just a good fighter.”

Meanwhile, Calzaghe commented on talks saying that Hatton is considering retirement after his devastating loss to the world’s pound-for-pound king.

“If I was knocked out in the second round, I'd want to keep fighting so I could go out with a win,” he said.

Though the former Welsh fighter added, “I'm not going to tell Ricky what to do with his career—he needs to sit back and decide for himself.”

Hatton’s conqueror also believes that “the Hitman” should keep on fighting.

“Para sa akin, puwede pa naman siyang lumaban. Ganun talaga ang boxing, may panalo, may talo (For me, he can still box. That's the thing with boxing, sometimes you win, sometimes lose),” Manny said in a phone interview on ABS-CBN’s “Umagang Kay Ganda.”

However, Hatton’s trainer, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., hinted at a post-fight conference that the Briton should probably retire after his second round TKO loss. Several critics, sports writers and boxing fans reiterated the call for Hatton’s retirement.
