Orcollo: Taking Predator tourney wasn't easy
Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo returned to the country Monday evening, fresh from his championship win at the Predator International 10-Ball final Saturday in Las Vegas.
Orcollo said his 8-3 victory over German pool legend Ralf Souquet was a surprise.
“Talagang bago ka manalo, dadaan ka sa butas ng karayom,” he told ABS-CBN News.
“Maraming magagaling,” he said of the players who joined the event held at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Halos 'yung sumasali doon sa World Pool Championship, kami-kami din.”
Before competing at the Predator 10-Ball, Orcollo bowed out of the PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool quarterfinal to Finland’s Mika Immonen, 8-4.
The Robocop, meantime, talked about what went through his mind while competing at the Predator 10-Ball where he won $20,000.
“Iniisip ko na lang din na kailangan kong maglaro lang. enjoy ko na lang 'yung laro ko. Kasi kung iisipin ko pa nang iisipin 'yun baka hindi ako mananalo,” he noted.
In a separate phone interview with ABS-CBN News, Orcollo said he was even relegated to the losers’ side after losing in the winners’ bracket.
“So sabi ko gagawin ko na ang lahat ng makakaya ko,” he said.
In a round of 32, Orcollo beat Filipino Rodolfo Luat, 11-6. He duplicated that score in the last 16 when he defeated Charlie Williams of the US, 11-6. He then beat another Filipinow ,Warren Kiamco, 7-4, in the semifinal.
Orcollo said he clinched the title over Souquet to make up for the loss of fellow another countryman, Alex Pagulayan. Souquet, whom Orcollo described as “the best in Germany,” dominated Pagulayan in the semifinal, 7-1.
“Tinambakan niya ‘yong kababayan nating si Pagulayan. So sabi ko sana mabawian ko siya at makuha natin ang kampeonato,” he added. With a report from Bev Llorente, ABS-CBN North America Bureau
