Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez will take some time off before deciding whether or not to take a fifth fight against rival Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.

Marquez is coming off a masterful victory over former world champion Mike Alvarado in Los Angeles last Saturday, where the Mexican "Dinamita" overcame a ninth-round knockdown to claim a unanimous decision.

The welterweight fight was considered a title eliminator for Pacquiao's World Boxing Organization (WBO) title, but Marquez refused to commit to a fifth fight with his rival so soon after the bout.

"We're going to rest now before making a decision, before we just say 'yeah, we're going to sign to fight,'" Marquez told reporters after the match. "We're going to have some fun with the family, since I haven't seen them in three and a half months. I just want some time with them."

In previous interviews, Marquez had been adamant that he no longer wants to fight Pacquiao, believing his sixth-round knockout of the "Pacman" in their fourth encounter last December 2012 should be the final image in their saga.

After beating Alvarado, however, Marquez did not completely brush off the idea of another fight with the Filipino, although he insists that he will have to take some time before making a decision.

"First I have to rest, be with my family, and then from there, we’ll see what comes," he said. " Think before I make a decision about whether or not I want this fifth fight, I have to think about it real good."

"I think the training will change. We'll have to see how we're feeling. It's gonna be a difficult and hard decision, but we'll have to think about it," Marquez added.

Fighting Pacquiao again will give Marquez a chance to achieve his goal of winning a world title in a fifth different weight class, as the Filipino holds the WBO's welterweight belt.

Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum, who promotes both Pacquiao and Marquez, has told ESPN.com that he is "fairly confident" that the fifth fight will happen.

"Manny wants the fight, so it's going to be up to Marquez. It really is," Arum said. "I think there's a lot of money in that fight."
