Mayweather expects 'hell of a fight' vs Marquez
Former Ring Magazine pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Jr. revealed that his training camp is going "amazingly well."
"I am weighing in around 146 or 147 and I know I will be ready on July 18th," he said in a promotional press conference, as quoted by PhilBoxing.com.
"I can't wait for this fight, and I am really dedicating myself to be ready for it," Floyd noted of his bout against Juan Manuel Marquez.
He said that he and his uncle, Roger Mayweather, have a "tremendous game plan." This will make him "more than ready" for the fight.
Roger is the brother of his father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr.
"I know what's going to happen, and I'm sure all of you know what's going to happen," said Roger. "Marquez is a good boxer, but in boxing it's about more than being good."
"Anyone can be good, but there are only a few out there that are great, and Floyd is a great boxer," he added.
"It's going to be a great fight and I know that this guy over here [Floyd] is going to come out on top," he said of his nephew.
'Great Mexican warrior'
"Pretty Boy Floyd," meantime, talked about his Mexican foe. "Marquez is a great Mexican warrior who is going to be in tremendous shape. He is a hell of a guy and he is a hell of a fighter."
"If Marquez is aggressive it could turn into a brawl and that is exactly the type of fight fans love to see," he said.
"It's going to be a hell of a fight. I'm not overlooking Juan Manuel Marquez, and I hope he's not overlooking me. He knows I've been off awhile so he might think I'm rusty, but I'm not. I'll be ready," declared Floyd.
"I like to hit, but I don't get hit. Marquez hits and gets hit. He seems used to it and still comes out on top 90 percent of the time."
Floyd also commented on the countrymen of Marquez. "I've got nothing but love for the Mexican fans; they are some of the most loyal fans in boxing. Mexican fans really know boxing inside and out."
Must win vs Marquez
Meanwhile, Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, also praised the "Dinamita."
"Marquez fought two great fights against Pacquiao, and in the eyes of many beat him both times," he remarked.
"Now that Floyd is back, he has come back to take his crown. He is coming back to be the best out there and to be the best out there you have to beat a fighter like Marquez," he said.
Ellerbe added that Floyd has "a lot to prove. There are always the naysayers out there who say he can't get back on top."
"The reason Floyd is back is because he is in love with the sport; he's always been in love with it," he reasoned.
"No matter where he goes, fans are always coming up to him asking, 'When are you coming back?' Well, he's back now and is ready for this tremendous challenge," ended Ellerbe.
