Mayweather holds first public workout in London
Throngs of fans packed the Peacock Gym in London to witness the first public workout of Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. since he decided to come out of retirement.
The workout was almost cancelled because his fans mobbed the gym, prompting security to lead Mayweather out of the gym for a while.
When the workout started, every punch of Mayweather was cheered on by his fans who waited for almost two years to see their idol back in the ring.
The American boxing great retired undefeated in 2008 as the world’s No.1 pound-for-pound fighter. He also vacated the WBC welterweight title.
“Pretty Boy Floyd” is currently training for his July 18 fight against Mexican Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez.
Mayweather was vocal about his fight versus “Dinamita” but refrained from talking about a possible match-up against pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Even the British media were trying to pitch questions about the possible Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, should the American boxer beat Marquez.
Mayweather, however, did not say much even if he is known for his sharp tongue inside and outside the ring. He said he would just concentrate on his fight against Marquez.
He added that he does not fear anyone, including Pacquiao.
His fans, meantime, could not help but talk about it, saying that they yearned for a Mayweather-Pacquiao clash.
“Marquez is just a stepping stone. We need him to take back his number one title because he gave it to Manny Pacquiao so easily,” said Jermaine, a Mayweather fan. “Manny Pacquiao has been knocked down twice, so why is Manny Pacquiao best pound-for-pound?”
“Mayweather and Pacquiao, please. Mayweather Pacquaio please,” he pleaded.
As far as the coach of the five-time world champion is concerned though, it is Pacquiao who should be chasing his nephew.
“It ain’t about him fighting Pacquiao, it’s about Pacquiao fighting him. He is the biggest thing in the court, not Pacquiao,” said Roger Mayweather, coach and uncle of Floyd Jr. Report from Rose Eclarinal, ABS-CBN News Europe Bureau
