Marquez to eat more Tacos for Mayweather bout
His upcoming bout against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is certainly no easy fight, said Juan Manuel Marquez.
“I have a tough fight with Floyd, I'm training right now and will go up to the mountains to build muscle for the fight,” Marquez said in a press conference quoted by PhilBoxing.com.
“It isn't exactly my weight but that only means I'll have to eat more Tacos, Burritos and Carnitas,” he added.
“Dinamita” noted that he is preparing “mentally and physically” for the July 18 fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
He also regarded the bout as “very important” for his career and life.
He said he agreed to fight Mayweather because he wanted to take on tough challenges. “I don't like easy fights," he reasoned.
"Everyone knows I don't like to talk outside of the ring. I do all of my talking inside the ring," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar de la Hoya predicted that Marquez will prevail over the former pound-for-pound king.
"Styles make fights and Marquez's style will beat Floyd's on July 18th. With the support of all his fans, Marquez will come out on top," declared the Golden Boy.
"This fight will pit the best fighter from the United States against the best fighter from Mexico,” he added.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, meanwhile, predicted that the Mayweather-Marquez bout will be the “biggest pay-per-view event of the year.”
Schaefer also explained why the fight is called “Number One/Numero Uno.” “It's called number one because everywhere you look, you are surrounded by the best,” he said.
"This really is the showdown between Number One and Numero Uno," he insisted.
