Angelo Que of the Philippines qualified for the US Open Monday after he finished second at the final elimination event held in Japan at the Ryugasaki Country Club.

Japan’s teen golf star Ryo Ishikawa meanwhile failed to qualify for the US Open Monday after finishing 18th.

Ishikawa scored an even-par 144 in a one-day, 36-hole event in Ibaraki, north of Tokyo, with only the top five players qualifying for the June 18-21 event in Farmingdale, New York.

"I'm still at the bottom among the players here in terms of playing ability, but I thought I could make it as I was in good shape," the 17-year-old said.

David Smail of New Zealand topped the field with an 11-under 133, followed by Que. The other players to qualify were South Korea's Bae Sang-Moon and two Japanese -- Kaname Yokoo and Shintaro Kai.

Ishikawa made his Masters Tournament debut in April and has since received a special invitation to play in the PGA Championship on August 13-16 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Ishikawa has revived the men's game in Japan after winning the domestic KSB Cup in May 2007 as an amateur at the age of 15 years and eight months, making him the youngest winner of any event on one of the world's six major tours.

After turning professional last year, he won his second domestic title and finished runner-up at the Japan Open and Dunlop Phoenix event, ending fifth on the country's 2008 money list.

Known for his powerful drives and daring plays, Ishikawa has struggled to readjust his swing in a season which included three US PGA events on a sponsors' exemption and the Masters. With a report from Agence France-Presse
