Powerade-Team Pilipinas scrapes each chance to practice as they enter the final phase of its preparations for the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Championship slated to start this June.
National team coach Yeng Guiao said they are trying to make the most of whatever free time they could get to prepare for the SEABA which kicks off on June 6 in Medan, Indonesia.
“Nagtitiyaga kami sa maliit na oras. The objective is not to disrupt their practice with their mother teams for the ongoing conference,” said Guiao during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue Branch in Manila.
Guiao cited that the members of the RP squad have to practice with their respective mother teams in the Philippine Basketball Association.
“The most we can do is practice from June 1 up to June 4 then leave for Medan, Indonesia,” said Guiao.
He, however, said they received a very good tune up during last month’s All Star Week, where they faced the North and South All Star Teams. This is aside from their hardcourt clashes with the taller Hoopdreamz Australia.
Guiao added that they have also submitted the final list of the 12 players who will suit up for Team Pilipinas in SEABA.
Picked for the final 12 are Asi Taulava, Mick Pennisi, Jayjay Helterbrand, Kerby Raymundo, Gabe Norwood, Jared Dillinger, Cyrus Baguio, James Yap, Ryan Reyes, Ranidel de Ocampo, Arwind Santos and Willie Miller.
Kelly Williams and Sonny Thoss, who are both recuperating from injuries are on the reserve list.
Guiao is also doubful that Helterbrand can play in time for SEABA after the latter received doctor's order for several days' rest due to hamstring injury.
