MANILA– Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao was happy to see the Elasto Painters finally click together on offense in their PBA Governors Cup game against GlobalPort Sunday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Rain or Shine finally notched its maiden victory of the conference, beating the Batang Pier, 119-97, in a game that saw them connect on 50% of their field goals.

"We just shot the ball well in today's game," Guiao said in PBA.ph's post-game report. "It's been a long time since we shot the ball this way."

"Matagal-tagal na kaming nakakuha ng ganitong rhythm sa offense," he noted.

Import Arizona Reid went 11-of-16 from inside the arc for 30 points, while Jeff Chan led the Rain or Shine locals in scoring with 19 points, built on 3-of-5 shooting from the three-point area.

Aside from their hot shooting from the field, Guiao believes a key to their victory was their willingness to run with GlobalPort. The Elasto Painters scored 28 fastbreak points in the game, while GlobalPort was held to a measly five fastbreak points.

"We knew GlobalPort is going to play a running game, and they'll stay with us in the open court," Guiao said. "But our attitude was to keep running with them."

"If they want to run with us, that’s fine. We'll stretch our bench and use it as much as we can just to keep them fresh," he added.

The high-scoring nature of the game did not come as a surprise for Guiao. “It’s a high-scoring game every time you play GlobalPort and that’s exactly what happened,” he said.

But the fiery head coach pointed out that it was not only their offense that finally clicked. Guiao was also happy with his team's defense, especially as they limited GlobalPort import Leroy Hickerson to only 20 points.

"Defensively also, we were able to defend the import relatively well. We know what he can do, and we also did a good job scrambling after a double team," Guiao said. "Whenever we put on a double team, the next step is just do a good job scrambling and rotating."

"We did that today, kaya medyo kumportable 'yung panalo," he added.

The Elasto Painters broke into the win column with yesterday's victory, putting them in a three-way tie with GlobalPort and Barako Bull.
