Bradley admits Pac-Marquez 5 'makes sense'

MANILA – Former world champion Timothy Bradley Jr. is in favor of a fifth fight between great rivals Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao of the Philippines and Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, saying it is a showdown that "makes sense."

Bradley was asked in an interview with On the Ropes Boxing Radio as to what should be the next step for Marquez, following his sensational victory over Mike Alvarado recently.

"I don’t know, it's up to him. He's fought everybody. It's all up to him and what he wants to do," said Bradley, who was also quick to add that "everybody is talking about a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao."

"Do I think he (Pacquiao) should fight Marquez? It's always a good fight, and it’s always entertaining – why not?" he said, answering his own question.

“Yeah, it's the fifth time, but a good fight is a good fight. It doesn’t matter how many times you fight – it’s a good fight."

Bradley was not always a fan of a fifth bout between Pacquiao and Marquez, saying in interviews last year that he does not think boxing fans want to see the two face each other again.

But the American has since changed his tune, especially after he was thoroughly beaten by Pacquiao in their rematch last April.

"The fact that Manny Pacquiao beat me, and the fact that Marquez looked sensation in his fight; that's the only real road these two guys can actually go right now," Bradley admitted.

"It makes sense. It's been over a year since they fought. I think this fight is definitely materialized and warmed up, and I think it's time," he added.

Pacquiao and Marquez have fought each other four times, with the Filipino having two wins over the Mexican. But it is Marquez who holds the most decisive victory of the saga, having brutally knocked out Pacquiao in their fourth fight in December 2012.

"Manny wants to redeem that knockout loss he suffered," Bradley said. "Manny's given Marquez a lot of rematches. Give Manny his rematch and go at it for a fifth time."

Bradley also suspects that his knockout loss "eats away" at Pacquiao, especially after he became the subject of ridicule among casual boxing fans, who turned his defeat into a popular Internet meme.

"I know Manny's seen the pictures and different things of him on the ground being knocked out," said Bradley. "I know he wants to erase that from people's minds, especially his fan’s minds, and knock Marquez out if he can."

When asked how a fifth Pacquiao-Marquez fight would play out, Bradley refused to give a prediction, only saying that it will definitely be "an entertaining fight."

"Marquez is always smart, and Pacquiao is a lot quicker than Marquez – he can get it and out on him. I’m not even sure how that fight is gonna go," Bradley mused.

But the American also believes that a fifth Pacquiao-Marquez fight will end the way the fourth fight did – with a stoppage.

"I just think it’s gonna be one shot. If they fought again, I don’t think it’s gonna go the distance, I really don't," Bradley said.
