Rampage, Mir triumphant in UFC 130
MANILA, Philippines – Quinton ’‘Rampage" Jackson showed the mixed martial arts (MMA) world that he is still a force to be reckoned with as he demolished Matt "The Hammer" Hamill in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 130 main event held Saturday (Sunday, in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Jackson won the bout despite having a fractured hand by repeatedly denying Hamill’s attempts at takedowns, and at the same time connecting with some huge punches late in the rounds.

Hamill was the aggressor early in the first round as he went after Jackson with leg kicks. Jackson was in defensive mode in the beginning, seemingly feeling out his opponent.
Jackson settled for being a counterpuncher for much of the first round before he finally went on the attack. ‘Rampage’ hit Hamill with some heavy punches late in round one, and the round ended with Hamill bleeding from the mouth.
The second round featured Hamill repeatedly trying to take down Jackson, but the latter’s defensive prowess kept Hamill from succeeding.
Despite not initiating the action, Jackson still connected with a flurry of big punches late in the round, clearly hurting Hamill.
With Hamill feeling the effects of his punches, Jackson obviously wanted to go for a knock out in the last round. He was able to tag Hamill with a big punch in the face and hit him with a succession of punches towards the end, but was limited by his hand injury.
All the judges gave the fight to Jackson, 30-27.
Rampage improved his record to 32-8 while Hamill dropped to 11-3.
"I wasn't able to put on the fight I wanted to," Jackson said after winning the match. He also explained that his fractured hand had limited his performance.

Frank Mir, meanwhile, dominated Roy "Big Country" Nelson in their heavyweight showdown.
He won over the judges with scores at 30-27, 30-27 and 30-26.
Mir was the aggressor from the very beginning, hitting Nelson with knees in the first round. Nelson repeatedly pinned Mir to the cage but could not hit him with anything significant.
Mir was finally able to take down Nelson late in round 2, but the former heavyweight champion was unable to hold "Big Country" down. He remained aggressive, however, continuing to hit Nelson with knees.
The third round was all Frank Mir. He took down Nelson multiple times throughout the round, trying to establish a good submission hold. Nelson was able to escape every time, however, as he constantly punched Mir despite being down on the ground.
Despite repeated takedown attempts, Mir dominated the match as Nelson looked tired as early as the start of the second round.
Mir rated his performance as a 7 out of 10, and complimented Nelson after their fight. "Roy is really tough and I'm glad to leave here with the win."
Mir improved his record to 15-5, moving closer to another shot at the heavyweight title.
Nelson, on the other hand, dropped to a 16-6 slate.
Undercard
In the undercard bouts, Travis Browne shocked Stefan Struve with a massive right hand late in the first round, knocking out the 6’11 Struve at the 4:11 mark.
Browne improved his record to 11-0 with 1 draw.
Rick Story, on the other hand, defeated Thiago Alves by decision, with all three judges scoring the bout 29-28. Alves attempted to salvage a win with some good knees in the third round, but Story stood firm and held on.
Meanwhile, Brian Stann ruined Jorge Santiago’s return to UFC in the second round. Stann dropped Santiago with a big right hand and repeatedly pummeled him before the referee stopped the bout at the 4:29 mark.
On the other hand, Demetrius Johnson defeated Miguel Torres via unanimous decision, while Gleison Tibau submitted Rafaello Oliveira in 3:28 mark of the second round.
Tim Boetsch, on one hand, took a unanimous decision victory against Kendall Grove while Michael McDonald settled for a split decision against Chris Cariaso.
Meanwhile, Renan Barao conquered Cole Escovedo via unanimous decision.
