News spread so quickly that Freddie Roach will be the new coach of Ricky Hatton after it was reported by RingTalk.com.
It took the boxing world by surprise as Roach, the 2008 Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Trainer of the Year, is the coach of Manny Pacquiao, the 2008 Fighter of the Year.
Pacquiao, the No.1 pound-for-pound fighter knocked out Hatton in the second round of their May 2 bout.
But according to John Martinez of IronBoxing.com, members of Hatton’s camp dispelled the rumor.
Gareth Williams, Hatton’s personal legal counsel, told Martinez, “This is just absolute nonsense. Whom are they attributing these resources to?”
“There is no truth in the rumor,” stressed Paul Speak, Ricky’s manager.
“He certainly has not approached Freddie Roach to train him because he hasn’t made any decisions as to whether or not he is even going to continue to fight,” added Williams.
Speak, meanwhile, said that a decision from Ricky regarding his career should not be expected anytime soon.
“He is going to take a lot of time, maybe some weeks, possibly months, to decide what he will and wants to do with his future,” noted Speak.
Hatton’s manager shared that “the Hitman” is currently on a family vacation and is set to return early next week.
