‘Bata’ still on top of pool prize money list
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino pool legend Efren "Bata" Reyes remained on top of the latest 2010 Player Money List, which includes 3 other Filipino cue masters in the Top 10.
According to AZbilliards.com, Reyes, the 2010 Player of the Decade, had total earnings of $61,580 in prize money for 2010.
The biggest of Reyes’ winnings are the $20,000 he scored in the Derby City Classic Master of the Table, and the $16,000 he won in the Derby City Classic 9-ball tournament last January at the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel Elizabeth in Indiannapolis, USA.
He also won the $8,305 runner-up purse at the 23rd annual Japan Open last March.
"Nakauna-agad ng magandang panalo si Efren kaya hanggang ngayon nasa top pa din siya ng world money list," said Reyes’ long-time benefactor Aristeo "Putch" Puyat.
Second in the money list is American's Shane Van Boening with $48,091, followed by Briton's Karl Boyes (3rd) with $37,067, and reigning national open champion Lee Vann Corteza (4th) with $35,625.
Corteza, top player of Jonathan Sy's Negros Billiards Stable (NBS), is fresh from back-to-back wins at the Hard Times Mezz Cues 10-ball and US Open 10-ball.
At 5th and 6th spots are Briton Darren Appleton and Filipino Dennis Orcollo, respectively. Appleton has $34,166 worth of winnings while Orcollo has $31,775.
Orcollo recently topped this year's World Pool Masters (9-ball) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Making it to 7th place is Bustamante with $30,861. Bustamante won the Super Billiards Leaque in Winnipeg, Canada.
At 8th to 10th spots are Daryl Peach of Great Britain ($29,088), Neils Feijen of the Netherlands ($27,306), and Rodney Morris of the USA ($23,325). – by Marlon Bernardino
