Rubilen Amit became the first Filipino to enter the knockout stage of the 2009 JBETpoker.net Women's World 10-Ball Championship after a 5-1 victory over compatriot Mica Claveria Wednesday night.

Amit's triumph over Claveria was her third straight win, following victories over Singapore’s Charlene Chai, 5-1, and Chinese Taipei’s Su I Yun, 5-1. She lost at the opening of the 10-Ball event to World No.1 Kelly Fisher of Britain, 1-5.

“I hope we’ll have more Filipinas into the next stage,” Amit said in a report on AzBilliards.com.

Amit, together with Fisher and Chai, moved on from Group 8 to the second half of the event held at SM North Edsa’s Sky Dome in Quezon City.

Fisher remained undefeated (5-0) while Chai posted three wins and two defeats.

According to AzBilliards.com, another Filipino who could advance to the single elimination round is 11-year-old Gillian Go.

The incoming Grade 6 student first won over Australian Lyndall Hulley, 5-3. Then she suffered loses on Wednesday from World No.5 Yu Ram Cha of Korea, 5-2, and Chinese Taipei’s Liu Shin-mei, 5-2.

Go bounced back on Thursday by trouncing Frenchwoman Latetia Dos Santos, 5-3.

Meanwhile, other lady cue artists who moved to the next round include American Jeanette “The Black Widow” Lee, Czech Veronika Hubrtova, Briton Allison Fisher, Austrian Jasmin Ouschan, Japanese Miyuki Fuke, Dutch Tamara Rademakers, Irish Karen Corr and Koreans Ga Young Kim and Yun Mi Lim.
