MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Is former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. ducking a possible mega fight with 7-division champ Manny Pacquiao?

This seems to be the case when the outspoken boxer said in an interview posted on YouTube that he will be taking a two-year break from boxing.

“I'm taking a couple years off... away from the sport of boxing. I want to devote my time to my boxing gym,” said Mayweather in the video amid reports that his possible November 13 fight with Pacquiao is currently being negotiated by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions.

The video was reportedly taken on June 2 in Las Vegas during a visit to 18-year-old cancer patient Armando Carral through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Mayweather did not clarify if he will take a break before or after a possible Pacquiao fight.

If the hiatus pushes through, it would be the second time that Mayweather will take a break from boxing. He went into temporary retirement after defeating Briton Ricky Hatton in July 2007, only to come back to the ring to defeat Juan Manuel Marquez in September 19, 2009.

No Pacman-Floyd fight?

Fight fans are hoping to see the two boxers in a mega bout touted by boxing observers as the richest fight in history.

Pacquiao, who recently won as congressman for Sarangani province, said he plans to fight one last time before he retires to concentrate on his legislative duties.

To give way to the fight, he recently agreed to Mayweather’s demand to undergo blood testing 14 days before their supposed fight. (Click here for story)

The Filipino champ said he agreed to Mayweather's condition to see if the drug test was the reason why

Mayweather backed out from negotiations.

“Para wala na siyang masabi at hindi na maraming dahilan pa. Tignan ko kung ‘yan talaga ang dahilan,” said Pacquiao earlier.

Mayweather earlier insinuated that Pacquiao has been using performance enhancing drugs, which accounted for his recent victories over bigger fighters.

Pacquiao strongly denied the allegations, saying that he has passed every drug test in all his fights.

The news of Mayweather’s supposed “retirement” broke out at the time when Pacquiao was receiving his Sugar Ray Robinson Fighter of the Year and Fighter of the Decade awards from the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Video comments

The Mayweather video on YouTube.com has drawn several comments from fight fans, most of whom derided the former pound-for-pound king for "ducking" the Pacquiao fight.

User HowlingStone said: "[Expletive] ridiculous. I actually tried to defend Mayweather from the Pacman fans out there, but this is a [expletive] joke. If Mayweather only cares about fighting for the money, fine, cool, whatever. but he shouldn't ever again mention himself in the same sentence as Muhammad Ali or Ray Robinson and think he's number 1 GOAT (Greatest of All Time)."

JCOOL2329 said: "He's making a wish come true for himself here......running from Pac thanks largely in part from "Make an excuse not to fight Pacquiao foundation" LOL (Laugh out Loud) 1-2 years off give me a break...."

MrAlvinVang said: "OMG i was the BIGGEST MAYWEATHER FAN UNTIL THIS HAPPENED!!!! Other viewers defended Mayweather and took a swipe at Pacquiao:

Said craig2kenneth: "He obviously doesnt just fight for the money, he fights to win and put a show for the fans. Nobody wants to see a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round KO in a Boxing... That's what we have UFC for...Had he put Shane on the canvas everybody would've been mad and asking for their money back... So just like Shane got it, Pac can get it... y is Pac such a big deal anyway, he fought Del La Hoya after Floyd beat, He Fought Hatton after Floyd Pounded him. Everybody says oh Manny Lost early in his career, an L[oss] is an L[oss]."
