IndyCar rookie Silvestro burns hand in fiery crash
FORT WORTH - Rookie driver Simona de Silvestro burned her right hand in a fiery crash Saturday in the IndyCar Series race at the Texas Motor Speeway.
The car driven by Switzerland's de Silvestro looked like a fireball as it slid off the backstretch and came to a stop between turns two and three.
"It was crazy. The fire was getting worse and worse," said de Silvestro when she came out of the infield medical care center with her right hand bandaged. "It just wouldn't go away."
De Silvestro appeared to be struggling to get out of the cockpit when an emergency official got there and hauled her out.
She then walked to the inside wall and sat on the track.
"My hand is a little bit burned," she said after receiving treatment. "I couldn't get out quickly enough.
"I feel OK and will be ready to go in the next race."
