Imperative for Pacman to KO Bradley
Pacquiao needs to prove he deserves Floyd bout
MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao needs an impressive win over Timothy Bradley to prove his case that he is the only viable opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr.
According to ring analyst Dennis Principe, it is crucial for Pacquiao to win by stoppage when the Filipino squares off against Bradley this Saturday in Las Vegas (Sunday in Manila).
“He needs to maintain that level wherein he’s the opponent that Mayweather needs. To maintain that, it is imperative for him to win by knockout,” said Principe.
It’s been a while since Pacquiao won by stoppage.
The last time the Filipino won in such fashion was when he halted Miguel Cotto by 12th-round technical knockout in 2009.
Since then, his succeeding bouts were full 12-round fights.
Principe believes the drought will end on June 9, when Pacquiao trades against a younger but relatively inexperienced Bradley.
“I think that Bradley is the perfect fighter for him. I think that’s one of the reasons Bob Arum chose Bradley [for Pacquiao],” he said.
Principe said Bradley tends to throw wild punches, which gives lots of room for Pacquiao to go for a knockout win.
“It’s the kind of fight that will at least help Manny maintain 'yung kanyang level, as the only opponent for Mayweather,” he said.
Mayweather, who recently defeated Cotto, is currently serving a three-month jail sentence.
Fans are hoping that the two pound-for-pound kings will soon figure in what they hope as the “Fight of the Century.”
