MANILA, – Former world champion Marvin Sonsona hopes to get even with former tormentor, Wilfredo Vazquez Jr., when they collide in a rematch set in the undercard of the Miguel Cotto-Sergio Martinez bout in New York on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time).

Sonsona and Vazquez Jr. each weighed 125.8 pounds during the weigh-in ceremony in front of a Puerto Rican-dominated crowd at the Madison Square Garden.

The Filipino, who is riding on a four-fight win streak which includes a knockout win against Akifumi Shimoda last February, said he doesn’t mind fighting in front of a hostile crowd.

"Hindi naman ako naalangan kahit na madaming Puerto Ricans na susuporta sa kanya sa Sabado. Okay lang yun. Nag train akong mabuti at talagang handa na ako para sa laban," Sonsona said in Rich Mazon’s report to Philboxing.

Sonsona said he is determined to avenge his defeat to Vazquez, who knocked him out in the 4th round in 2010.

He is also excited to fight at the historic Madison Square Garden which has hosted some of the biggest fights in boxing history.

“Sobra po akong excited na lumaban dito sa New York at mapasali sa card na ito. Sana suportahan at ipagdasal ako ng mga kababayan natin dito at sa Pilipinas."
