Pacquiao told: Be like PH, go after Spratlys
MANILA, Philippines – It won’t be enough for Manny Pacquiao to just win against Timothy Bradley, according to a long-time ring analyst.
Boxing commentator Ed Tolentino said fight fans are expecting Pacquiao to come up with a spectacular victory, especially after the Filipino’s so-so performance against Juan Manuel Marquez.
“Sabi ko nga, Manny [should] go after Bradley like the Philippines go[es] after Spratlys,” Tolentino said in an interview with dzMM.
“At the end of 6 rounds, kelangan siguraduhin ni Manny na si Timothy Bradley ay isa na lang palamuti,” he quipped.
Fans have known Pacquiao for his string of ring stoppages against boxing “heavyweights” like Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and several others.
But after his technical knockout victory against Cotto in 2009, the heavy-hitting Filipino has yet to come out with another knockout win.
Pacquiao’s performance even took a dip when he fought Marquez in November last year.
He was able to survive the counter-punching specialist from Mexico by hammering out a controversial majority decision win.
Tolentino said the Bradley fight will be the perfect opportunity for Pacquiao to show that he’s not yet past his prime.
“More to come, or have we seen the best? 'Yan ang sasagutin ni Pacquiao,” he said.
“Kaya ambigat ng pressure kay Manny Pacquiao ngayon, kasi hindi lang niya kelangang talunin si Bradley, kelangan talaga itumba niya sapagkat medyo ordinary na nga yung kanyang mga huling fights,” added the boxing analyst.
But Tolentino believes Pacquiao has enough in his arsenal to stop somebody like Bradley.
“Within 6 rounds, kayang tapusin ni Manny Pacquiao. Magiging umaatikabo ang bakbakan… Ang sabi ko nga kay Pacquiao, he has to shift his gear on a higher offense.”
