Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao will take the spotlight in a baseball field once again when he throws out the first pitch in the Los Angeles Dodgers-Oakland Athletics game at the Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, California on June 17.

Pacquiao will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the evening game, as reported by the Dodgers official Web site (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com).

The first pitch of “the Pacman” is said to be a preview of his slated appearance in the Dodgers’ Filipino Heritage Night on August 18 when the Dodgers will face off with St. Louis Cardinals.

Group tickets to the Filipino Heritage Night are priced at $35 while individual seats are $45.

According to the Dodgers site, “$1 of every ticket sold using the promo code PACMAN will benefit the Manny Pacquiao Foundation.”

Pacquiao also threw out the first pitch in April for a San Francisco Giants vs San Diego Padres game as part of the Giants’ Filipino Heritage Night.

He is also scheduled to throw out the first pitch on September 16, when the Giants play against the Colorado Rockies.

The Dodgers' site also noted that Bobby Chouinard is the only Major League Baseball (MLB) player born in the Philippines. He made his Major League debut with the Athletics in 1996.

Meanwhile, three players of Filipino heritage also played in the Major Leagues. They were Bobby Balcena (1956 Cincinnati Reds), Benny Agbayani (1998-2001 New York Mets, 2002 Colorado Rockies, 2002 Boston Red Sox), and Chris Aguila (2004-2006 Florida Marlins, 2008 New York Mets).

MLB Players of Filipino heritage

I know of another major leaguer of a Filipino heritage; i.e., Clay Rapada. Born in Virginia of Filipino parents. Member of the Detroit TIgers bullpen, a reliever last season. Currently, he is sent down to minor league.
