Marquez willing to fight Bradley if he wins rematch
MANILA, Philippines – Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez is willing to fight American fighter Timothy Bradley Jr. if he is successful in his November rematch against Filipino fight king Manny Pacquiao.
Bradley pulled off a stunning upset last Saturday in Las Vegas when he was named winner via split decision against Pacquiao to become the new World Boxing Organization welterweight champion.
Because of the controversial nature of the decision, however, Pacquiao and Bradley will most likely fight again this November in a rematch.
This is bad news for Marquez, who is hoping to get a fourth shot against his Filipino rival.
“I have to accept the result from the fight and move on with my career,” Marquez told Boxing Scene. “Pacquiao and Bradley have a rematch on November 10th, so I just have to continue on with my career.”
“We will wait and see what happens in the rematch on November 10th. If Bradley wins, then why not have a fight between him and myself at welterweight?” he suggested.
Marquez said he is looking to return to the ring on July 21st.
The rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley is not yet final, however, as Top Rank boss Bob Arum has asked the Nevada State Attorney General to investigate the fight.
Marquez and Pacquiao had their own controversial fight last November, wherein Pacquiao escaped with a majority decision victory even though he struggled all night against the Mexican.
