An upstart Philippine team pulled off a 1-0 shocker against favorites Vietnam in the 2014 AFC Under-14 Girls Regional Championship at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday.
According to a report on the AFC website, Lindsay Whaley scored the lone goal of the match at the 28th minute to stun the host nation in what was their second game of the competition.
The Filipinas had kicked off their tournament with a 6-0 thrashing of Singapore, with Itsuko Bacatan, Joyce Semacio, Arantxa Mari Trebol and Francescae Anne Marie Suerto all scoring for the Philippines.
The Philippines will wrap up their campaign in Group A against Cambodia. The top two teams in the two groups at the end of the elimination round will advance to the semi-finals.
According to the website of the Philippine Football Federation, the under-14 team is composed mostly of first-time national players.
