Algieri: Pacquiao fight is 'very realistic'

Newly crowned WBO light-welterweight champion Chris Algieri believes he stands a "very realistic" chance of landing a big-money fight against WBO welterweight champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao.

Algieri joined the Pacquiao sweepstakes when he shocked Russian brawler Ruslan Provodnikov by recovering from two first round knockdowns to claim a disputed split decision.

In an interview with ESPN, Algieri was asked about his chances of landing the Pacquiao fight, and the boxer said it was "very realistic."

"How realistic was it for me to get this Ruslan fight?" he pointed out. "How realistic was it for me to win the fight?"

"These are all things that if you would have asked people a couple of months ago, they would have said the same thing about me getting the Ruslan fight," he added.

"Well, I ended up getting it and I ended up winning it, so why not get me the Pacquiao fight and see if I can do it again?"

One of Algieri’s promoters, Joe DeGuardia, said he has already started discussing with Top Rank and Bob Arum about a potential Pacquiao fight.

"We'll see where that leads," DeGuardia said. "I think that when all is said and done, marketability-wise, Chris Algieri has proven himself to be a tremendously marketable fighter."
