Arum: Next opponent will be up to Manny
Pacquiao is the boss, not me, says the boxing promoter
MANILA, Philippines – It will be up to Manny Pacquiao who he wants to fight next, says boxing promoter Bob Arum.
Arum claimed in Examiner that Pacquiao has full control in the choice of opponents, contrary to what most people in the boxing world believe.
“I don't call the shots when it comes to who Manny fights next. Manny has the final say on who he wants to fight," the Top Rank CEO said.
Arum said he has yet to talk to Pacquiao about the latter’s plans after the split-decision loss to Bradley.
He said the fighting congressman is busy taking care of affairs at the home front.
"Manny is currently in the Philippines helping the flood victims. I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet, but once he's finished I will get with him and figure out what were going to do next," said Arum.
Among Pacquiao’s possible fights is a rematch against Bradley or a fourth bout against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Arum, however, is queasy about pursuing a Bradley rematch given Pacquiao’s controversial loss.
Pacquiao lost his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight belt to Bradley despite dominating the latter for most of the fight.
"The trouble with making a Bradley versus Pacquiao rematch is that the first fight was so one sided, it doesn't make a lot of sense."
