MANILA, Philippines – Talk 'N Text coach Norman Black said they will have to pick up their pace in Game 2 or find themselves in a 0-2 hole in their best-of-5 semifinals duel with San Mig Coffee in the PBA Governors' Cup.

Despite suffering from fatigue near the end of Game 1, the Coffee Mixers managed to carve out a 92-88 overtime victory against the Tropang Texters on Thursday night.

“No question Game 2 is a must win situation for us,” said Black in the league’s official website. “We cannot afford to go down 2 games.”

The Talk ‘N Text coach said they will have to sustain their intensity against a San Mig Coffee squad that has shown capability to hang tough down the stretch.

The Coffee Mixers played Game 1 without their “Scoring Apostle” PJ Simon, who is still recovering from back spasms.

In the third quarter, they also had to do without James Yap who was forced to bail out due to an injured foot.

In overtime, Joe Devance had to leave the court as he was hampered by back spasms just like Simon.

But other players valiantly took over to make up for the absences.

It was Allein Maliksi who sent the game into overtime by swishing a triple that tied the scores 77-all. Marc Pingris and Mark Barroca then took turns in burying clutch shots in the game extension to seal the deal for the Coffee Mixers.

“It’s important that we play tough, intense basketball for 48 minutes and execute well in the endgame, both offensively and defensively, because San Mig has shown the ability to finish strong in games,” said Black.

Talk ‘N Text and San Mig Coffee will resume their semifinal wars on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Game time will be at 5 p.m.
