Praises ‘Solomon-like’ decision

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum said his most-prized fighter Manny Pacquiao was vindicated with the World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) latest findings on the Timothy Bradley fight.

Through its five commissioned judges, the WBO deemed that Pacquiao was the victor in the June 9 fight that saw Bradley taking home the WBO welterweight belt.

But the WBO admitted that it cannot strip the title from Bradley, since he was not responsible for the errant decision.

"That's a Solomon-like conclusion. Paco is a good man, he really is. I have great respect for him and what he says," said Arum in RingTV, referring to WBO president Paco Valcarcel.

Contrary to the split-decision verdict by the ringside judges, WBO’s commissioned judges scored the fight, 118-110, 117-111, 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113, all for Pacquiao.

The WBO said it may exercise its power to order a rematch should Pacquiao and Bradley decline to pursue one.

"If they want to make a rematch, we will approve the rematch and if they don't, we will order one,” Valcarcel told ESPN.

However, Arum seems cool with the idea of staging a rematch between the fighters.

He also claimed Varcalcel is unlikely to immediately press the rematch since the decision-making involves the promoter and the fighters.

"Paco's not a dictator. He's saying that it's up to the fighters and the promoter, as well it should be,” said Arum.

“My first stop on any quest to determine what to do next is that I have to talk to the guy who is the money generator, and that's Manny Pacquiao," he added.
