MANILA – In winning another NBA Finals MVP, Miami Heat superstar LeBron James joined an elite club of legendary basketball players with back-to-back Finals MVP and regular season MVP awards.

According to ABS-CBN sports correspondent TJ Manotoc, who covered the NBA Finals in the US, James is now one of only three NBA players who accomplished the feat.

“LeBron James is awarded the Final MVP [plum] back-to-back and back-to-back regular season MVP. The only other people who did that were Bill Russell and Michael Jordan. A very elite company that LeBron James is in,” Manotoc said on ANC's social media program, ANC Alerts.

James joined the 2 retired US basketball icons after leading the Heat to its second straight NBA Finals victory at the expense of the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday (Friday in Manila).

The accomplishment is a big addition to James resume’, which includes two NBA title wins with the Miami Heat and four regular season MVP awards.

Russell was first to set the record when he was playing for the Boston Celtics in the 1960s.

Jordan duplicated the feat during his playing years with the Chicago Bulls in the early 1990s.

Manotoc said James was particularly outstanding in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

The 6’8” forward scored 37 points on 12-of-23 field goal shooting, 5-of-10 from the three-point country, and 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

James' scoring tied the 37-point mark set by Boston Celtic’s Tom Heinsohn for most points in an NBA Finals Game 7.

“King James” also registered 12 rebounds.

“LeBron James stepped up and he showed everybody else in the world that he was able to take control over pretty much every aspect of the game, from defense to rebounding and even taking the big shots,” said Manotoc.

Manotoc said the Heat is expected to give their fans a victory parade on Monday.
