Gin Kings level semis series vs Rain or Shine
It’s now 2-all for Barangay Ginebra and Rain or Shine in their best-of-seven semifinal race as the Gin Kings demolished the Elasto Painters, 86-70, in Game 4 of the 2008-09 Motolite-PBA Fiesta Conference Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.
Jayjay Helterbrand sparked the Gin Kings’ rally in the third period as he led Ginebra en route to the easy win with 21 points.
Ronald Tubid contributed 14 before he was thrown out of the game at 2:38 mark of the third period after incurring two technical fouls.
“Luckily, we were able to survive this game because it’s really difficult to come back after the loss,” said Ginebra coach Jong Uichico who also drew 10 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists from import David Noel.
“We really can’t take this team for granted. Rain or Shine is still a very tough team,” he added.
Beermen drubs BK in double OT
In the second game, San Miguel Beer bounced back from 19 points down in regulation and needed two overtimes to beat Burger King, 120-119, and take a commanding 3-1 advantage in their own best-of-seven semis race.
Dondon Hontiveros drained two important charities in the last 10.1 seconds of the second overtime.
“Series is far from over,” said San Miguel mentor Siot Tanquingcen, who got 26 and 20 points from Hontiveros and Danny Ildefonso respectively.
Burger King had chances to win the game in regulation and in first over time but just could not deliver the shots in the end.
Arwind Santos, who had 29 and 11 rebounds for the Whoppers, had the chance to win in regulation but his jumper misfired that sent the game to first overtime.
Santos again had the chance to redeem himself but missed another jumper and failed to shatter the second deadlock.
