Lee Van Corteza and Warren Kiamco of the Negros Billiards Stable have made it to the finals of the JBETpoker.net Scotch Doubles All-Star Challenge.

The competition serves as the undercard tournament of the Challenge of the Legends between Efren “Bata” Reyes and Ronnie “The Volcano” Alcano.

Corteza and Kiamco beat Puyat Sports partners Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan and Rodolfo Luat, 5-1, for a smooth sailing into the championship round of the Scotch Doubles competition at the SM North Sky Dome in Quezon City.

The two will face in the finals the winner of the match between Dennis “Robocop” Orcullo-Gandy Valle of the Bugsy Promotionsand Ramil Gallego and Antonio Lining of the Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines.

Unlike in the early part of the tournament, Corteza and Kiamco have become deadly serious in their last two matches.

“Kasi napakaimportante nung mga sumunod na laban kaya nag-usap kami ni Warren, kailangan manalo kami rito,” said Corteza.

Kiamco, for his part, asked billiard fans to root for them in the doubles finals.

“Sana po suportahan kami ng mga manonood, lalo na ‘pag lumaban na kami sa championship,” he said.

The duo from the Negros Billiard Stable received a beating from partners Gallego and Lining in their opening match.

They then proceeded to defeat Orcullo and Valle before trouncing Pagulayan and Luat in the doubles semi-finals.

After the doubles finals match on Friday, Reyes and Alcano will take the center stage for a race-to-nine rotation match which will serve as the main event of the tournament.
