Algieri doesn't mind fighting Pacquiao in Macau
Junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri doesn’t mind fighting Manny Pacquiao overseas, even in hostile territory.
Since Pacquiao’s ring return is already set to take place in Macau on November 23, Algieri said he’s willing to head to Asia’s gambling capital just to be able to fight the Filipino superstar.
“I don't mind going to China. I think that will be a cool trip,” Algieri said in a video interview with Boxing Scene.
The undefeated American fighter added that he isn’t afraid if Pacquiao enjoys undue advantage in a venue located near the Philippines.
“I don't wanna think like that,” said Algieri. “People are saying that in my fight against Ruslan [Provodnikov], they moved the fight to Brooklyn in the last minute, but it never bothered me. I never get nervous about getting a fair shake, I don't think about bad decisions.”
It was his split-decision victory over Provodnikov that made him an ideal candidate for the Pacquiao fight.
The controversial win seemed to have trained the spotlight on him such that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum reportedly approached him after his victory for a possible bout with Pacquiao.
Algieri said he hopes the promoters will actually be able to get him the fight.
“I'm not really sure where that action stands but we'll be ready no matter what,” he said.
