Meralco's Al-Hussaini in trouble for going AWOL

MANILA, Philippines – The Meralco management is threatening to impose sanctions against its center Rabeh Al-Hussaini for going absent without leave (AWOL).

Team manager Butch Antonio said the former UAAP Most Valuable Player went to Kuwait to work on his citizenship and pension papers, but failed to return as promised.

This has left Meralco without a legitimate center, causing the team’s failure to reach the playoffs of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

“Right now, he’s considered AWOL. But he’s still under contract pa, though right now, he won’t receive his salary,” Antonio said in Richard Dy’s report to Spin.ph.

“Supposedly, he’s working on his citizenship documents in Kuwait, but it’s been weeks since we last texted,” added Antonio.

Al-Hussaini has been out of the country for a month and a half.

But his agent, Danny Espiritu, assured that Al-Hussaini intends to honor his obligations with the Bolts.

“Nasa Kuwait siya eh. Pero understandable naman sa grupo (Meralco Bolts management) na tatapusin muna niya ang pag-ayos ng dokumento para makuha niya ang pension niya,” Espiritu said.
