RP football team released from quarantine
The Philippine football team prevented from participating in the First Asian Youth Games in Singapore after one of its members tested positive for influenza A(H1N1) virus has been released from quarantine, an official said Friday.
RP team chef de mission Col. Cesar Binag said in a text message that the Filipino football players were released from quarantine around 8:20 a.m.
Binag said he sent the text message to ABS-CBN News while on board a bus with the players and their relatives. He said they were on their way to the Games Village-Swiss hotel.
He said the team will have practice at 11 a.m. for a friendship game against Singapore on Saturday afternoon at Jalan Besar Stadium.
"They are all in good condition and ready to play tomorrow. The parents are extremely happy," Binag said.
The team was quarantined in a resort in Singapore after one of the athletes, a 14-year-old boy, tested positive for influenza A (H1N1).
The player arrived from Philippines with 17 other teammates and two coaches Thursday (June 18), and showed signs of fever after practicing the following day.
Another member of the RP football team was tested due to colds but was found “negative” of the virus.
