MANILA, Philippines – Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo and Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano are set to compete in Doha, Qatar at the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) World Pool Championships (World 9-Ball), which begins on Monday and will run until July 5.

Orcollo and Alcano, top players of Perry Mariano’s Bugsy Promotion, are hoping to make it to the tournament proper through the Asian Pocket Billiard Union (APBU) invitation.

“I hope to do well in this event,” said Orcollo, who is coming from a big win in the 2010 Partypoker.net World Pool Masters last May 12 to 16 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I prepared myself 100% for this event, ito na lamang kasi ang kulang sa akin at lahat naman ng bilyarista sa buong mundo ay pangarap maging WPA World 9-ball Champion,” he shared.

Alcano, the 2006 WPA World 9-ball champion, added: “Target ko na maibalik sa bansa ang World 9-ball crown.”

Other Filipino pool players in the main draw are Lee Van Corteza, Jeffrey de Luna, Marlon Manalo, Antonio Gabica and Antonio Lining. They made it to the main draw through their world ranking status. Newly-crowned Spanish Open conqueror Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante are also being invited as wild card entries. – by Marlon Bernardino
