MANILA – Former welterweight champion Marcos Maidana is willing to fight WBO welterweight king Manny Pacquiao if he doesn’t get a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The Argentine slugger describes Pacquiao as an important fight due to his stature as one of the world’s best pound-for-pound fighters.
“It would be an attractive fight. Pacquiao is a very important fight, and I'm in the best phase of my career,” said Maidana in Nicolas Samuilov’s Boxing Scene report.

For the fight to happen, Top Rank and Al Haymon have to arrange the fight. Haymon, who handles the careers of several boxing superstars including Mayweather, is Maidana’s manager.
“I heard that they had named Pacquiao. I did not know that there was a problem between Bob Arum and Al Haymon ... I'm just finding that out,” said Maidana.
If he gets the fight, Maidana said he won’t need any adjustments against the Filipino boxer.
He said he will charge directly against Pacquiao like he did against his other opponents.
“With anyone, I always go forward. The opponent has to study me, and then decide whether he plans to run or stand still. My style is to go forward and it won't change. I never went in there to box anyone. I never came in there to run. I always did the same thing,” said Maidana.
With regards to Mayweather, the Argentine believes that the brash American boxer doesn’t want to fight him anymore.
“I don't think so, I don't think he will give me a rematch. I'm waiting, but inside I know that he's not going to give me a rematch,” Maidana said.
Maidana lost via majority decision against Mayweather last May but gave the pound-for-pound champion a competitive fight.
