Lee relishes chance at redemption against San Mig
MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine guard Paul Lee is highly motivated to beat San Mig Super Coffee in the PBA Governors Cup finals because he believes it is his chance to redeem himself against the Mixers after their loss in the Philippine Cup earlier this season.
Rain or Shine had taken a 1-0 lead against San Mig in the best-of-seven series, only to see the Mixers reel off three straight wins – all close victories – and win the series in six games.
"Yung laban namin ng All-Filipino, 'yun ang motivation ko," said Lee, as quoted by PBA.ph. "Sana, ganoon din sa mga teammates ko."”
"Yung mga games namin against San Mig, lahat close games eh. Ito na ‘yung chance na makabawi kami," he added.
Lee had not been able to play when Rain or Shine defeated the Mixers in the 2012 Governors Cup for the franchise's first title. He hopes to not only make up for his absence in that series, but also to deny San Mig a chance at history.
"Yung San Mig gusto makuha 'yung Grand Slam," he said. "Sana ma-stop namin 'yun."
Lee believes their difficult series against Alaska in the semi-finals will only help them against San Mig, since the two teams have some similar plays.
"Kung ano 'yung mismatch, 'yun 'yung pino-post nila," Lee observed. "Makakatulong iton series na ito sa amin sa championship."
Rain or Shine defeated San Mig Coffee, 95-94, in their lone elimination round game in the Governors Cup. It was import Arizona Reid who paved the way for the E-Painters in that game exploding for 39 points.
