14 countries join RP Open badminton

MANILA - Shuttlers from around the globe will take part in the Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open Gold Grand Prix Badminton Championships 2009 Tuesday afternoon at the Philippine Sports Multi-Purpose Arena (formerly ULTRA) in Pasig City.

The tournament’s competing countries are China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Wales, Germany, the Philippines, Canada, Bulgaria, Japan, Vietnam, Great Britain, Slovenia and Singapore.

Badminton action begins at 2 p.m. with qualifying round matches for Women’s Singles and Men’s Doubles, as stated on PhilOpenBadminton.com.

The first rounds of Men's Singles, Women's Singles and Mixed Doubles, meantime, will be held on Wednesday, July 1.

The Men’s Singles second round will also be played during the second day of the badminton open. Play starts at 10 a.m.

Players entered in the Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles will start competing on Thursday, July 2.

The rules and regulations of the Badminton World Federation will be applied, particularly the Grand Prix competition format. The tournament will be using the Rally Point System.

The event’s prize money is $120,000 for the GOLD Grand Prix.

The Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open Gold Grand Prix Badminton Championships 2009 runs until Sunday, July 5.
