Mexican foe claims Donaire has 'glass jaw'
MANILA, Philippines – Challenger Hernan “Tyson” Marquez of Mexico is confident that he will be able to dethrone World Boxing Association (WBA) interim super flyweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. when they face off on July 10.
“I’ve never been cut, never been stopped and Nonito Donaire - I’m coming to win by knockout or by points,” Marquez (27-1, with 20 knockouts) said in a report by BoxingScene.com.
Marquez’s only loss was dealt by Filipino Richie Mepranum last March. (Read: Pinoy pugs score wins on eve of Pacquiao-Clottey) (www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/03/13/10/pinoy-pugs-score-wins-eve-pacquiao-c...)
The Donaire-Marquez fight will take place at the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in Hato Rey.
Glass jaw
Marquez said that although he respects the champion, he claimed Donaire has a weak jaw.
“The most important thing is to stop him from moving around so much. He does not have much resistance. If you touch his jaw, he starts to move around in bad shape,” the Mexican said.
“I’m well aware of Nonito’s abilities. I respect him, but I’m getting ready to fight for fifteen rounds which he won’t be able to withstand,” Marquez added.
Donaire cuts weight
Donaire (23-1, with 15 KOs), meanwhile, is confident that we will be able to make the 115-pound limit for the Marquez fight.
The Filipino Flash is determined to move up in weight after the fight because of his struggle to make the super flyweight limit.
“I’m getting there. I’m seven pounds away and I have the whole of next week to cut it down,” Donaire told PhilBoxing.com.
He said that training is going very well with the help of his sparring partners.
Donaire sparred twelve rounds last Monday with former world champion Steven Luevano, Glenn Gonzales, Bruno Escalante and Dodie “Boy” Penalosa Jr., son former 2-division world champ Dodie “Boy” Peñalosa.
Joining Donaire in the Puerto Rico fight card are Filipinos Bernabe “The Real Deal” Concepcion and Eden Sonsona.
Concepcion will try to wrest the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title from Puerto Rican superstar Juan Manuel Lopez in the main event.
Sonsona, meantime, will fight Jonathan Oquendo of Puerto Rico.

LOL. Donaire may not be a man
LOL. Donaire may not be a man of steel but he is one of the Filipino boxers. Have you seen the fight against Vargas? His lateral movement and counter-punch made his enemy fall.
