MANILA - Top seed the Philippines marched into the finals of the HSBC Asian Five Nations 2009 Division III tournament Wednesday in Parañaque City.
The Philippine team overcame fourth seed Iran, 18-0, armed with its match experience and fitness.
The RP team’s victory forced a finals rematch with Guam, the No. 2 seed.
The Philippines and Guam clashed in 2008 at the Guam Regional Tournament with the Philippines bagging the crown, 20-8.
Guam, meantime, won over third seed Indonesia in the earlier match.
Guam was leading Indonesia, 18-3, for most of the second half before closing the match at 23-3.
HSBC Asian Five Nations 2009 Division III finals will be held at 3 p.m. at the Nomad Sports Club in Merville Park Subdivision, Parañaque.
The Division III champion will be promoted to the HSBC Asian Five Nations Division II tournament alongside India, Thailand and China in 2010.
Indonesia and Iran will also face off on Saturday at 1 p.m. to determine the third and fourth placers of the tournament.
