MANILA, Phililppines – The Brooklyn Nets have been busy this off-season, and if all their chips fall in the right place, the Nets could find themselves instant contenders.

According to latest reports, disgruntled Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has talked to new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan about trading him to the Nets.

Howard is not the only franchise-altering player Brooklyn is going after. The Nets will also meet with free-agent All-Star point guard Deron Williams.

Brooklyn hopes to convince Howard and Williams that they can surround them with talented role players to make them compete for the championship.

In case they fail to acquire Howard, the Nets are also in talks with the Atlanta Hawks to acquire star shooting guard Joe Johnson.

Brooklyn believes that getting Johnson – who owns the richest contract in the league – will be enough to convince Williams to stay.

One player who will surely don a Nets jersey next season is swingman Gerald Wallace, who agreed to a four-year deal worth S40 million.

But the Nets may still end up using Wallace as part of trade package to nab Howard. -- Report from ANC.
