MANILA, Philippines – The father of World Boxing Council (WBC) light welterweight champion Danny Garcia is not impressed with his son’s next opponent, British boxer Amir “King” Khan

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Angel Garcia downplayed Khan’s accomplishments in both the amateur and professional ranks, calling him “a nobody.”

“Khan is a nobody... The key to beating Khan is going in there and beating the sh*t out of him,” the elder Garcia said. “This guy never faced a Puerto Rican in his life. He’s never faced a Puerto Rican hungry like Danny.”

Garcia is also unimpressed with Khan’s silver medal in boxing, which he won as a lightweight in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

“If you won the silver medal in America, as an Olympian, they are going to look at you like you didn’t win the gold,” he said. “That’s nothing.” [http://www.boxingscene.com/garcia-rips-khan-never-met-pakistanian-who-fight--54568

“He fought through the crack of boxing at the time. He was a slash European. I mean, he was a slash British, slash Pakistani,” Garcia added.

“I have never, ever, ever in my lifetime... I have never met a Pakistani who could fight. And I’m being honest with you. I ain’t beating around the bush or trying to sound racist.”

Garcia will defend his WBC belt against Khan on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The vacant World Boxing Association light welterweight belt is also on the line.
