Silva wants to fight Jones
MANILA, Philippines – Even with a title defense against Chris Weidman at hand, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva said he is not backing out from a possible superfight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Silva, who recently admitted that he will have a tough time beating the younger Jones, said he will square off against the New York native if given the opportunity.
“My opinion is this: I'll fight Jon Jones, all the guys from my class, all the guys that work in the UFC – all the fighters. I respect all the fighters. I respect Jon Jones,” the Brazilian MMA superstar said in Bloody Elbow.
Silva will defend his crown against Weidman in the main event of UFC 162 this weekend.
The card, which will also feature Mark Munoz’s middleweight bout against Tim Boetsch, will take place in Las Vegas, Navada.
Silva said he doesn’t underestimate Weidman, but he’ll always say yes if someone asks him about fighting Jones.
“I respect Chris Weidman, but I'm here for working. I'm not scared of Jon Jones, of Chris Weidman or whoever. I'm here to fight. That's it. It's simple,” he said.
