MANILA, Philippines – Milo Philippines announced that it has given 400 pairs of shoes to public school students nationwide after holding the first elimination run of the 34th National Milo Marathon last Sunday.

A total of 28,331 runners joined the Manila leg, which began at Kilometer Zero of Roxas Boulevard and ended at Independence Road in front of the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park.

A portion of the registration fees of the July 4 participants was allocated to Milo’s advocacy of inspiring underprivileged children to excel in sports by giving rubber shoes to public school students.

Milo aims to raise 4,000 pairs of rubber shoes, which will be distributed by the Department of Education to student beneficiaries who excel in sports and have balanced academic standing.

“Thank you to all the runners who participated in the July 4 Manila Elimination Race! As we count down on the races, we count up on the shoes! Takbo na sa 34th National MILO Marathon and help give a child a pair of shoes,” Milo Philippines said on Facebook.

The event on Sunday had the 3K, 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K race categories.

It had side events as well, including an inter-school cheer dancing competition, basketball shootout and soccer mini-games.

Celebrities such as Gerald Anderson, Karylle and Toni Gonzaga joined the marathon events.
 
Milo has enjoined other runners who want to take part of the advocacy to join the other elimination runs on July 11 (Dagupan City), July 18 (Baguio City), July 25 (General Santos City), August 29 (Davao City), September 5 (Cebu City), September 12 (Tagbilaran City), September 19 (Dumaguete City) and September 26 (Iloilo City).

The Milo Marathon action continues on October 3 (Naga City), October 10 (San Pablo City), October 17 (Batangas City), October 31 (Puerto Princesa), November 7 (Tarlac City), November 14 (Olongapo City), November 21 (Butuan City), November 28 (Cagayan de Oro) and December 12 (National Finals in Manila).
