MANILA, Philippines – Following their stints in the World 9-Ball championship, Filipino billiards superstars Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo and Ronnie “Volcano” Alcano will head to Jakarta, Indonesia for the 2010 Guinness World Series 9-ball Championship.

Joining them in the Guinness event, which runs from July 28 to August 1, are other local billiards heavyweights Antonio “Nikoy” Lining and Lee Vann “The Slayer” Corteza.

“Babawi ako sa Guinness sa Jakarta. Medyo minalas tayo sa World Pool sa Doha,” said Orcollo.

Alcano, who lost to eventual runner-up Taiwanese Kuo Po-cheng in the World 9-Ball quarterfinals, said, “Baka dito sa Jakarta medyo palarin tayong manalo.”

Former Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) chief Perry Mariano is hopeful that a Filipino will take home the Guinness title.

"We have very good chances of winning again. Django Bustamante won the World 9-Ball crown in Doha, not to mention the other performance of our players in the past international tournaments," he said.

Other Filipinos competing in the Guinness event are fellow BMPAP members Alex Pagulayan, Roberto Gomez, Jundel Mazon, Ricky Zerna and Carlo Biado.

Also invited to play in the tournament’s main draw are Mika Immonen (Finland), Ralf Souquet (Germany), Ricky Yang (Indonesia), Thorsten Hohmann (Germany), Darren Appleton (England), Shane Van Boening (USA), and Johnny Archer (USA). -- by Marlon Bernardino
